Your Denture Options

Dr. Turner offers three types of dentures at his Kansas City-area practice:
Traditional Dentures

Traditional Full Dentures

This restoration consists of natural-looking teeth that are secured to a gum-colored base. Full dentures can be placed on the top, bottom, or both dental arches. They rest on the gums and are typically held in place by a dental adhesive.

Partial Dentures

Partial Dentures

Partial dentures replace multiple teeth but not an entire arch. They are traditionally held in place by small metal clasps that attach to your natural teeth.

Implant-Supported Dentures

Implant-Supported Dentures

This highly effective restorative treatment provides the best stability. Dr. Turner will attach your lifelike dentures to strong titanium implants that are surgically placed in your jawbone. The implants act as artificial tooth roots, keeping your dentures firmly in place at all times.

Dr. Turner Talks about Implant-Supported Dentures

Dental implants are the next best thing to your natural teeth. At Matthew A. Turner DDS, PC, we can coordinate every step of your treatment by working with some of Kansas City's best oral surgeons. If you are tired of living with gaps in your smile, we can restore your ability to chew, speak, and smile with confidence again.

Implant-Supported Dentures Offer Added Benefits

Extra Stability

Dentures that are attached to dental implants are much more stable than traditional dentures, which can shift or slip when you speak or eat.

Protected Jaw Health

Jawbone recession occurs whether you lose one tooth or every tooth. After dental implants are in place, they send the regenerative signals needed to stop bone recession. Traditional dentures do not do this.

The Dentures Procedure Timeline

Dr. Turner will first determine if your gums are healthy and your oral health is in generally good condition before moving forward with the denture process:

Planning

Dr. Turner will make a precise 3-D digital scan of your jaws and any remaining teeth using the advanced iTero® scanner. Then, a model prosthetic will be crafted to check the fit and appearance of your dentures. When Dr. Turner is satisfied with the results, the scans will be sent to our trusted partner lab where your final dentures will be fabricated out of durable, natural-looking materials.

Placement

In a few weeks, your restoration will be ready. Then you will come back to our Blue Springs office for a final fitting. Dr. Turner will make any necessary adjustments and send you home with a new smile.
If you want implant-supported dentures, Dr. Turner will refer you to a trusted oral surgeon in the Kansas City area for your implant surgeries. After a healing period of about six months, you'll go back to the surgeon so he can attach abutments (connectors) to the implants. After a shorter healing period, you'll see Dr. Turner at his office to have your custom dentures attached to the implants.

Frequently Asked Questions

Am I a good candidate for dentures?
If you are missing multiple teeth or an entire dental arch, dentures can definitely benefit you.

Will smoking affect my dentures?
Yes, in many negative ways. Smoking irritates the soft tissues of the mouth, which will make wearing dentures very uncomfortable. The habit will also stain your dentures. Meanwhile, smoking will increase your risk of developing serious issues such as oral cancer. If you need new dentures, take this opportunity to start a new chapter of health and happiness in your life by stopping smoking.

How long do dentures last?
With proper cleaning and maintenance, they can last between five and 15 years.
