What Is Invisalign? A Discreet Way
to Straighten Your Teeth

/

Invisalign is an orthodontic solution that uses a series of customized aligners made from BPA-free plastic to gradually correct minor to moderate dental misalignment. While braces require the bonding of brackets and wires to the front surfaces of your teeth, Invisalign aligners are clear, form-fitting, and easily removable.

Invisalign vs. Braces How You Can Benefit From Invisalign Treatment

There are many reasons why our Kansas City patients choose Invisalign over traditional braces. The comfort, discretion, and ease of treatment are unmatched by metal wires and brackets. During your consultation, Dr. Turner will review your oral health needs and aesthetic goals to determine if Invisalign is right for you.

Discretion

Invisalign aligners are crafted from clear, BPA-free plastic. Most people will not even notice you are wearing them, making them easy to fit in with any lifestyle.

Comfort

Invisalign offers a more comfortable orthodontic solution than traditional metal braces that use brackets, wires, and rubber bands. Traditional braces require frequent and sometimes painful adjustments. Invisalign aligners apply gentle force to your teeth with minimal discomfort and require less frequent visits to our Kansas City-area office.

Convenience

Because the clear aligners are removable, they offer more convenience than braces. There are no “off-limits” foods to get stuck in the brackets, such as caramel, taffy, or popcorn. Being able to remove the trays also makes cleaning and caring for your smile much simpler.

Speedy Results

Invisalign treatment can sometimes be completed in half the time of traditional orthodontics. Most Invisalign treatment plans straighten teeth within 12 to 18 months, or even shorter time periods during express treatment. Traditional orthodontics can take two years or more.

Dr. Turner Explains the Benefits of Invisalign and How He Can Treat Misalignment at Any Age

Dr. Turner provides customized Invisalign treatment to patients of any age. The clear aligners are comfortable and removable, allowing you to eat all your favorite foods and easily maintain good oral hygiene. The discreet nature of the aligners can benefit both teens and adults who feel self-conscious about wearing traditional braces. Dr. Turner has helped patients from 14 to 87 straighten their smiles and boost their confidence.

The Oral Health Benefits of Orthodontics

Our Kansas City dentist recommends orthodontics to patients with dental misalignment not just because it provides a cosmetic improvement, but also because it improves your oral health.

When teeth overlap or are crooked, food and plaque can become easily trapped, increasing your risk of tooth decay and gum disease. On the other hand, when teeth are properly positioned, it makes brushing and flossing more efficient and results in better oral function.

Keep Your Teeth and Aligners Clean How To Care for Your Invisalign Trays

It is important to keep your teeth and Invisalign trays clean during your treatment to prevent bacteria buildup. Follow your dentist's instructions to ensure your teeth and gums stay healthy and your treatment stays on course:

Maintain Good Oral Hygiene

You should continue to brush your teeth twice daily and floss once daily to maintain the health of your teeth and gums. Tooth decay, gingivitis, and other dental problems could delay treatment and affect your results.

Clean Your Aligners

The best way to clean your Invisalign trays is with the Invisalign cleaning system. However, denture cleaner is also a great alternative. Avoid using hard-bristled toothbrushes and whitening toothpaste because they can scratch and cloud your aligners, making them more visible while wearing.

Avoid Extreme Temperatures

Because your aligners are made of plastic, extreme hot and cold temperatures can warp their shape and cause a delay in treatment. Try to rinse them off with room-temperature water only.

Keep Your Aligners Safe

Always put your aligners in a safe place where they cannot be lost or damaged.

Contact our dentist immediately if you have lost your aligners. Our dentist will assess where you are in your timeline and suggest the steps you should take to stay on track. Any additional aligners that need to be fabricated can add to the price of your treatment. Our dentist works hard to avoid any treatment delays or additional costs.

Am I Too Old for Invisalign? Absolutely Not!

No one is ever too old for orthodontics, and Invisalign is often a better option for working adults than braces because the clear aligners are discreet and removable. At our Blue Springs dental office near Kansas City, MO, Dr. Turner has treated patients of all ages with the Invisalign system, even adults well beyond retirement age. We firmly believe that it is never too late to work towards a healthier, more beautiful smile.

Our Advanced Technology Makes the Designing Process Easy

During your initial consultation at our office near Kansas City, we will take digital scans of your smile with our advanced iTero scanner. Unlike traditional putty impressions, which can be uncomfortable, iTero uses a handheld wand to take digital images of your teeth and gums. Once the images are collected, we will digitally create a custom treatment plan that will result in proper alignment. Dr. Turner will tell you approximately how many clear aligners you will receive throughout your Invisalign treatment and how long it will take.

I would rather drive an hour to Matthew than go anywhere else! Everyone on Matthew’s team will make you feel like family.

We Offer Invisalign Attachments To Help Straighten More Complex Smiles

/

Invisalign attachments are small, tooth-colored dots secured to the fronts of certain teeth to focus more pressure on problem areas. These attachments have helped patients with more pronounced misalignment issues undergo treatment without having to see an orthodontist.

Frequently Asked Questions About Invisalign in Kansas City

Q. How long does Invisalign treatment take?

A. This will depend on several factors, such as the severity of your orthodontic issues and how carefully you adhere to your treatment plan. The average length of Invisalign treatment is about 18 months, but it can be as short as 12 months or as long as 24 months.

Q. Is there an age minimum for Invisalign treatment?

A. Invisalign treatment requires that the patient be responsible enough to keep track of and wear their aligners for at least 20 to 22 hours a day. Because children mature at different rates, some may be responsible enough for Invisalign sooner than others. During your consultation, you and your dentist can discuss the requirements and decide if Invisalign is right for your child.

Q. What happens if I don't wear my aligner trays for 22 hours a day?

A. If you don't wear your aligners for the prescribed time, it could make your treatment take longer than expected. It's important to keep your Invisalign trays in unless you are eating or brushing. However, if you have a situation that requires removing your trays for a short period, this should not impact your treatment as long as you resume wearing them as soon as you can.

Q. What do I do if I lose one of my aligner trays?

A. Try your best to keep track of your Invisalign aligners, but if you do lose an aligner tray, don't panic, and please call our Kansas City office for help. If you are nearly ready to move on to the next aligner set in your series, you may be able to do just that. In other cases, we may need to have another set crafted. We recommend using a protective case when you aren't wearing your aligners to prevent damage and loss.

Q. Once treatment is done, how often should I wear my retainer?

A. We suggest wearing a retainer or the last Invisalign aligner in your series overnight for about 12 months after treatment to maintain your beautifully straightened smile. This will help prevent your newly aligned teeth from shifting back out of place. If you lose your retainer, contact our Kansas City office so we can help you get a replacement as soon as possible.
